RISE will partner with the communities in the Lungi Area of Sierra Leone to bring soccer tournaments as form of recreation with an added bonus of health-based education for hildren of ages 9-14 years in the month of November, after the rainy season.
RISE will collaborate with organizations with a focus on hygiene and sanitation to promote the creation of health clubs in primary schools. In addition to hardware components for improved sanitation, there is the need for adequate behavior change and children are the best agents to propagate this change in their communities.
Based on our communication with community leaders, it was relayed to us that there is a need for libraries in the schools at all levels of educations. The literacy rate in Sierra Leone as measured in the year 2008 was 38% of the population and currently ranks 195th in the world out of 201 countries. RISE hopes to partner with with schools, universities and organizations in the US to sponsor bookdrives and in turn help communities build libraries for their children and adults to improve reading skills.
RISE is partnering with secondary and tertiary educational institutions as well as communities to
bring sexual health workshops that focus on STIs, protection, relationships and risks. These workshops will focus on adolescents of ages 15-22 years in both urban and rurals areas.
